He is also and always intensely curious about everything around him, if not necessarily anyone anymore. Nevertheless, there is still a spark of kindness in his actions, an echo of the man he once was, a whisper of who those closest to him still believe to be.❝ - NEGATIVE ATTRIBUTES : A broken individual, Cato's will to live is mostly held together by spite, anger, and the simple fact that no matter what he's tried to do or what has befallen him, he cannot die. An abomination, a freak, an apparent rejection to the Lifestream itself, Cato's mental psyche is on an ever precarious edge.

▍ ❝   A mass murderer.
Cato keeps no curtain over the fact that he formerly served in the Garlean military, and that he was complicit in the tasks and duties that were required of him. As he describes it, "I've killed tens. Hundreds. Thousands. More. Folk who were trying to kill me. Folk who fleed. Folk who had never even seen a blade in their lives until I came. The only reason I walk free now is because I happened to be in the wrong place, at the right time."

▍ ❝   An abomination.
To those more aetherically attuned, it is clear that Cato holds in him an abundance of aether far beyond what is ordinary, or even extraordinary for a person. To those who know specifically what to look for, Ifrit's energies are deeply tempered with his own. To those who know, the Ifrit that holds sway over him is locked inside, held back only by the flimsy chains that ink Cato's skin. Those who have endured the Final Days may have heard of another Ifrit beyond the plains of Carteneau, raging with Blasphemous fury.

▍ ❝   A marked bounty.
Recent events have seen a particularly spiteful librarian call for Cato's head. Posters have been placed up on every board possible, detailing Cato's condition of being Ifrit's host and presenting a clear danger to the people of the star. Whether these claims are believed however are another matter.

▍ ❝   A savior.
A known consultant for the former Scions and with a larger penchant for direct field research (especially since he's barely able to maintain the upkeep for his own apartment, much less a lab that would satisfy his eclectic needs), Cato has been known to assist them in their operations, especially in former efforts to oust Garlemald's invasions. He has undoubtedly saved lives, whether through his research or his direct actions.

Garlemald's recent upheaval has allowed Cato to reclaim his previously stolen and misattributed research in the study of aether, alongside publishing new papers in the time since. His previous research broadly fell under the study of aetherflow, specifically examining the mechanism of why certain sigils and runes were more conducive to certain types of aether than others. His newest research delves into the microscopic blocks that form aether, and more broadly life in general, and the interactions therein.
